PAINTING AS CEREMONY

Ceremonial painting is a spiritual practice of creating sacred art that includes smudging and connecting with the canvas, brushes & paints, while honouring and seeking guidance from your Spirit and Ancestors.

Zongwe uses painting as ceremony sessions to help with their grief over the many lost souls due to residential school.

This piece was donated to MAWA: Mentoring Artists for Women's Art Auction selling to help support women and non-binary artists.

'Sacred Heart'

During this painting as ceremony session, Zongwe was meditating on the 'scared heart' of Jesus - and Jesus 'appeared' on the canvas. Zongwe feels a deep love and connection to Jesus.

Zongwe is so grateful when He comes into their ceremonial art making sessions - which also includes drawing with crayon, pastels, pencils, pens and markers.
